"Learning by Doing" AI Practice – Grades 4–6 (Hardware)

Elementary24 lessons

Course Overview

This course follows the main line of “Build — Sense — Create,” guiding students to understand how intelligent systems work through hardware building and programming practice, and to develop engineering practice ability and computational thinking through hands-on creation. In Grade 4, students learn basic robot concepts and structural building, control Tianji robots to move, make sounds, and sense the environment with icon programming, and complete biomimetic robot projects. In Grade 5, they learn sensor principles and automatic control systems, build projects such as a smart watering system, a programmable electronic keyboard, and a smart alarm, and experience the intelligent flow of “sense → judge → control.” In Grade 6, they learn smart product design, build projects such as a smart desk lamp, a USB music box, and an air purifier, and experience a complete product design process from needs analysis to function implementation.

Self-Directed Learning
Actively explore how robots and sensors work, discover and solve problems independently in hardware building and programming practice; use AI tools to look up materials for learning, and adopt AI-generated results with care.
Independent Decision-Making
When choosing hardware solutions, setting sensor parameters, and designing program logic, collect information for comparison and analysis, and make reasonable choices based on independent judgment.
Self-Management
Independently plan progress for model building, program debugging, and project optimization; allocate class time reasonably; record each test result and adjust the plan accordingly.
Engineering Thinking
Understand the engineering flow of intelligent systems—“structure building → sensor connection → program control → test and debug”—and evaluate and optimize solutions under constraints such as part quantity and hardware performance.
Computational Thinking
Decompose hardware control tasks into the program flow of “input → judgment → output,” use icon programming and conditional structures for abstract modeling, and analyze and fix program errors.
Design Thinking
Design smart products from user needs, iteratively improve function and experience based on test feedback, and create products that solve real problems.
Cultural Understanding
In biomimetic robot projects, understand the fusion of technology and nature, recognize how technological development affects social life, and think about ways technology can serve society.
Communication & Collaboration
Express ideas effectively and collaborate with division of labor in group building and testing; clearly describe program design ideas, listen to others, and complete works together.
Critical Thinking & Innovation
Identify anomalies in program running and limitations of hardware design, independently evaluate their reasonableness; propose personally creative improvements based on existing solutions.
Real Training, Real Experience
Students personally build robot models, connect sensors, and write control programs, understanding how intelligent systems work through the full real process of “structure building → sensor connection → program control → test and debug.”
Stepwise Progression
From robot building and icon programming, to sensor applications and automatic control systems, then to smart product design and optimization—three stages rise in a spiral so beginners can keep up step by step.
Hardware–Software Collaboration
On top of hardware building, students write programs to control sensors and actuators, integrating physical structure, electronic components, and program logic to create smart products that can actually be used.
Smart Life Applications
Projects such as smart watering, smart lamps, and air purifiers closely match daily life scenarios, helping students feel the value of smart technology improving life while solving real problems.
